There is a fundamental problem with the way that we think that prevents us from moving forward with our dreams and goals.
It’s this idea that being Human somehow makes us flawed by nature.
As if we didn’t have enough to deal with after being born, now I have to deal with the fact that being ‘only’ human makes me substandard by default.
What in this world is better than a Human? Nothing! That’s why it’s impossible to say ‘only’ human, because that presumes there’s something better than humans.
When was the last time you stopped and thought about how awesome it is to be a Human?
I think being a Human is the greatest! Let me count the ways:
- I get to learn from generations of other humans before me so that my knowledge is naturally bigger than anyone who lived before me.
- I get to talk to other Humans about ideas.
- I can pave my own path in the world without having to worry about being eaten.
- I can create and produce as much as I want!
- Humans are super smart.
- Humans can use their minds to succeed at anything.
That’s why when people say ‘I’m Only Human’ when they make a mistake or do something bad, I cringe.
Humans aren’t born to make mistakes and do bad things. Humans are born to succeed and do great things! I’m not saying that Humans should never ever make a mistake or they are a disgrace to the species. I am saying that when a Human makes a mistake, they should be surprised and brush it off as an anomaly.
Instead of being resigned to the fact that we are going to mess up, let’s be resigned to the fact that we are going to succeed, and surprised when we mess up.
Don’t let this idea of us being flawed bring you down. We aren’t flawed. We are Human. And Humans think and experiment and find ways of doing incredible things. It wouldn’t be as fun if we did it perfectly every time. But by working harder and thinking more every day than the day before we end up succeeding at it in the end. We always do. That’s why you should always assume you are going to succeed and leave failure in the dust where it belongs.
Set your terms and then go get it. Success is inevitable. Flaws and failure are just products of a bad mindset. Don’t give them any thought. They don’t deserve your attention.
I know this is a difficult paradigm shift to accept. I have a hard time with it every day. But I get better at it all the time, and it’s changed the way I look at everything. Especially my own work. Try to remind yourself how great it is to be Human as often as possible. It will pay off. I promise.
